The Chi Ryu Aiki-JuJitsu Honbu Dojo has been closely connected to the founding of the non-profit Federation Geido Tao Chi Kihon (FGTCK) in 1987. It remains the headquarters of the federation and, since July 1st, 2019, has also served as the official seat of the organization.
Before the establishment of the federation, Hanshi Jhonny Bernaschewice taught at the sports hall in Eksel. Later, he moved the classes to a small dojo on Dorpstraat in Hechtel. This dojo was built in memory of and dedicated to Hanshi Bernaschewice’s best friend and training partner, Maximiliano Butti, who passed away in 1973. It was named the Honbu Dojo.
During the 1990s, the growing popularity of martial arts attracted a large number of students, both from Belgium and abroad. To meet this demand, Hanshi Bernaschewice decided to create a permanent dojo. Construction of a two-story building began in 1995 and was completed in 1996. The dojo was originally located in the basement, while the first floor housed changing rooms, a kitchen, a second dojo, and a recreation area. Due to safety regulations, structural modifications were later required, resulting in the dojo being moved to the first floor.
The Honbu Dojo features 100 m² of tatami training space. It is located at Toekomststraat 40 in Hechtel-Eksel, situated in the private grounds of Hanshi Bernaschewice and Shihan Siggelkow.
Following the passing of Hanshi Jhonny Bernaschewice on December 11th, 2024, the Honbu Dojo became the place where his ashes were laid to rest. During the Celebration of Life held on December 21st, 2024, students had the opportunity to bid their final farewell to Hanshi Bernaschewice at the Honbu Dojo.
In May 2025, the dojo was closed due to structural safety concerns and will remain closed until further notice.
Since then, all training has been relocated to the dojo at the local sports hall, located at Dennenstraat 8, 3941 Eksel.
